3 Budget Friendly Ways To Drive Viewers To Your Online Television, Films or Videos

August 31, 2009

There are many budget friendly, online marketing techniques that content producers can use to drive website traffic and viewers to their online television, films or videos. FaceBook has gotten a lot of press lately, so here are three other alternatives.

LinkedIn: With more than 12 million unique visitors and 40 million total visitors (Source: compete.com) the LinkedIn  website is one of the most powerful social networking sites on the web. There are several ways to use the LinkedIn tool to drive traffic to your user generated content…..

  • On your online profile, describe the television or video content your created, then provide links to your content in the website section.
  • Update your LinkedIn Status Message with an enticing headline and shortened URL linking to your content. For example: “Just released my hilarious, Sci Fi series, Silver Flush on my website: http://ow.letx.kk”
  • Join groups for video and television professionals, then include links to your content in the news section. A few to consider: Film TV Professionals with more than 20,000 members and Hooray for Hollyworld! with more than 8,000 members.

Twitter: If you have a good size Twitter following, you can write Tweets about your content and include links. However, another creative technique is to notify other power users of your content and encourage them to Tweet it for you. These users should be people that would  1) be interested in your online content and  2) have a good size Twitter following.

You can use a tool like Tweep Search to search profiles and identify these power users. Then, send them an @reply message. For example, if you want @BostonFilms to tweet about your content, send a message to @BostonFilms Check out my new realty, web video series, Boston Rocks. http://ow.letx.kk Please RT”. If the recipient likes your content, they may promote it to their entire follower base.

Blogs: In July 2009, David Burch with TubeMogul stated that “Blogs are the biggest referrer of video views.. 45% of video views come from specific searches for a video. Of the the 55% remaining, 81% are found through blogs.”

Maintaining your own blog and embedding or linking to your videos is one option, but that can be a lot of work. Another alternative is to identify other bloggers that may be interested in your content. Then contact them directly, provide links to your content and offer to do an interview for their blog. (This is called “blog outreach”.) Blog authors are always looking for new content for their blog posts and will probably be happy to receive your email contact. Two great sources to find blogs are Google Blog Search and Technorati Blog Search.

Using LinkedIn, Twitter and Blog Outreach will drive viewers to your online television, films or videos. Good luck building your audience!!
